Lightning Ridge Opal Mines is a family owned and operated retail business, specialising in solid opals and opal jewellery, with a direct focus on opal education. Operating for over 40 years, catering to interstate and international tourists and tour groups. There is a large variety of opal jewellery and unset solid opal on display, ranging in price from $5 to $100,000. Most jewellery pieces are designed in-house and handcrafted by local artisans, and we cut and polish most of our unset opals on premises. Each and every visitor to the showroom becomes immersed in their "Opal Experience", something that the average tourist would not normally be exposed to. The entire experience takes between 20 minutes to many hours, depending on the level of interest and enthusiasm expressed by the visitor. 97 per cent of the world's opal comes from Australia and it was proclaimed our National gemstone by Governor General Bill Hayden in 1993.
