Established in Clunes in 1939, Interknit is now Victoria’s last rural commercial knitting mill. Every garment created on-site is put together by hand in a process that turns a cone of yarn into a finished jumper. With over 24 specialised knitting machines plus a fully equipped sewing room, Interknit make everything from the humble wool cardigan through to fire retardant high visibility safety jumpers.
Visit their shop, open six days a week, for a range of genuine Made in Ballarat Australian merino wool gifts and souvenirs plus a large range of fashion jumpers from their own brands: Ballarat Gold, WorkSmart, Outdoor and Branberry. There is free off-street parking; toilet facilities and the shop is completely wheelchair and pram friendly. A small toy corner will keep children safely amused while adults browse.
The shop fronts the factory where through the week skilled staff are busy preparing knitwear orders, if you are lucky you might find a bargain factory second, meet the owners or even see a little bit of manufacturing action.
